HOW TO CONVERT MP4 TO DVD
The ability to burn MP4 to DVDs is an advanced feature offered by RealPlayer Plus, the premium version of the RealPlayer video player. RealPlayer Plus burns MP4 files in full HD to a standard blank DVD disc that can then be played in an AVCHD capable Blu-ray player.
You will need to download RealPlayer Plus to convert MP4s to DVDs. You can burn your MP4 files to DVDs with RealPlayer Plus by doing the following:
- Open RealPlayer Plus. (If RealPlayer does not open in Plus mode, just log in by choosing Sign In from the RealPlayer dropdown menu at the top right of the screen.)
- Insert a DVD into your computer’s DVD burner.
- Select the Library tab at the center top to make sure the MP4 videos you want to burn to DVD are in the RealPlayer Plus Library. (If your videos do not appear, you can drag and drop them from their current folder into this Library.)
- Select the Burn tab at the center top. The RealPlayer Plus Burn screen will appear.
- Click the Video Disc Burner button above the left pane.
- Under Step 1- Select Disc Type in the left pane, select the DVD Video option. (If your MP4 file is in HD, select AVCHD Video instead. If it’s not HD, don’t bother – a HD burn takes longer.)
- Under Step 2- Add Clips From The Library Below To The Right Pane, the scroll-down list will be set to Library. Select Videos from this scroll-down list instead, because you don’t want to burn every file in your whole RealPlayer Library.
- Select each video clip you wish to burn onto the disc.
- Click the Add Selected to Disc button below the video list. Your selected videos will appear in the right pane. There you can move them up and down to put them in the order you want.
- Click the Burn Videos to Disc button. The Video Burning Option dialog appears, allowing customized navigation options for when you’re playing the disc in your DVD or Blu-ray player.
- In the Disc name field, give your DVD the name of your choosing.
- If you want an onscreen menu for choosing individual videos when you pop in your DVD, click the circle next to Include on-screen menus as a guide to disc content. If you do not want a menu on the DVD, click the circle next to Don’t include on-screen menus (playback begins immediately).
- Click the Burn button. This is where the magic happens! Your MP4 videos will begin burning to DVD.
Be patient with the DVD burning process – converting MP4 to DVD takes a lot longer than burning MP3 music to CDs. You’re burning a whole lot more data with a DVD.
We should note that RealPlayer Plus occasionally displays an “Unsupported media type” error. This may be because the file is DRM protected, so it cannot legally be copied. Why does a RealPlayer pop-up come up each time I select “burn” for music video. I already have RP+16 installed with all the bells and whistles. DVD Burn won’t select at all.
Make sure that you have signed into RealPlayer by following:
1. Open RealPlayer.
2. From the RealPlayer menu in the upper left, choose Sign in.
3. Enter your email address and password.
After you are signed in, you should see a RealPlayer Plus icon located in the upper left corner of the player and try to burn DVD. Let us known if the issue still persists.
I have RP Plus, and although it downloads MP4 from youtube, it will neither play them nor burn them.
It works fine with flv videos, but increasingly youtube seems to be MP4.
YouTube and other sites have introduced a new streaming standard. We are working on an update to RealPlayer that will allow for this new format. We expect to release a fix with the next RealPlayer 16 build in late-August.
In the meantime, you can try the interim solution provided in this link (if you are using Internet Explorer): https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23698236
Of course RP plus can download youtube videos but cannot, as yet play them I have discovered , however,
that Windows media palyer ( on my computer with windows 7) shows video but there is no sound!
This issue has been fixed in the latest build of RealPlayer 16, released on August 21.
If you are currently using RealPlayer Plus 16 or the free version: Please open RealPlayer, click the RealPlayer logo in the upper left, and select Check for Update. You will then be able to update your RealPlayer to the newest build. Please note that you may need to re-enable the RealDownloader extension in your web browser as well by following this link: https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/24007773
If you are currently using RealPlayer Plus 15: Please contact Customer Support for additional instructions.
After updating RealPlayer, please re-download the videos that previously received the “General Error” message.
Note: Some files created with camcorders may not play in RealPlayer.
I have RP+16 installed and I get through all the steps till I click burn and then I get a “General Error. An error occurred” pup-up box. I click on the more info and all of the links go to dead pages? Even the link to this site. I have uninstalled and redownloaded and installed RP with all the add-ons when I was told they were needed. The uninstall was suggested by customer service and I have been online with techsupport and still not been able to solve the problem. The techsupport session was ended prematurely when a phone connection was lost.

I am having a problem playing back my DVDs on my tv after I have burned them from mp4. I did not have this problem before. I am getting a “Disc Error”. Other DVDs are playing properly that I have burned before. I had uninstalled Real Player Plus and reinstalled it. I can’t seem to figure out what the problem is. Thanks for your quick response as I have an assignment to complete by the end of the week.
Sorry you can’t play a DVD!
