RealPlayer 18 Private Mode Helps You Keep Your Videos Private
Have you ever had a video on your computer that you didn’t want everyone else to see? Maybe you were creating a surprise video for a family member and you didn’t want them to know about it. Perhaps it was content that you wouldn’t feel comfortable if your child stumbled upon it while using the family computer. Either way, with the Private feature in RealPlayer 18, that concern becomes a thing of the past.
When you make a video Private in RealPlayer 18, your videos are hidden from anyone who isn’t authorized to see them. They won’t even be able to find them in Windows Explorer. After all, if unwanted viewers don’t know the video exists, they don’t know to look for it. The only place to see the video is in the Private view of your RealPlayer library, which incidentally can only be unlocked with a PIN number you select. So go ahead download all those videos on how to fix your car or how to bake a geode cake and know that they won’t clutter up your RealPlayer Library.
How to Mark Videos Private in RealPlayer 18
The RealPlayer Private video feature is only available for Plus, Premium, and Unlimited account holders. If you don’t already have a paid version of RealPlayer, you’ll need to sign up for one to access this feature and update your version of RealPlayer. Here’s how to make videos Private.
- Create a PIN to protect your private videos
Once you’re signed into your RealPlayer account, click Private in the sidebar and click Enter PIN. You’ll only need to do this once to set up the feature. Choose a 4-6 number PIN and complete the form.
Note: If the RealDownloader window is open, close it and reopen it to activate the Make Private feature.
- Make a video Private
There are two ways to make a video Private when using RealPlayer: when you initially download a video using RealDownloader or once a video is in your RealPlayer library.
Use RealDownloader to download a video. Once the download is complete, click the Make Private button beside the video name. Enter your PIN.
If you already have a video in your RealPlayer library that you want to make Private, right-click on the video and select Make Private.
If you have a few videos you want to mark as private, select them and click More on the bottom taskbar. Click Make Private.
How to Play a Private Video
Once you have private videos, you’ll need to be able to find them and play them. All you really need to know to make that happen is your PIN number.
- Open your RealPlayer library and click Private in the sidebar.
- Click the Enter Pin button. Enter your 4-6 numeric PIN. You’ll see all the videos you marked private. Play the one you want.
Note: Once you close RealPlayer, lock your computer, click the End Session button, or your computer goes to sleep, the Private session ends. So you’ll need to re-enter your PIN number if you want to access those videos again.
What Happens to Videos Marked Private
Once you mark a video private, no one without the PIN number will be able to access them. The video will only appear in the Private view of your RealPlayer library (it won’t even appear in Windows Explorer). That means you won’t see it in your RealTimes or RealCloud accounts. Additionally, you can’t upload or share the video. You can only view it in your RealPlayer library after you enter the PIN. Sounds pretty secure, doesn’t it? Not to worry, you can also disable the Private feature on videos.
Once you click the Make Private button when downloading a video using RealDownloader, it changes to Undo Private. Simply click the button and the videos will be saved in your RealPlayer library and not in the Private view section. For videos stored in your RealPlayer library that you’ve marked Private, simply choose Private in the sidebar, enter your PIN, select the video you want and click Undo Private in the bottom taskbar.
