RealCloud now casts to Google Chromecast
[blog_update content=”RPC2RT”]
If you are one of these people:
– Who love creating videos OR
– Who love watching your personal videos on your TV OR
– Who love to hate HDMI cables OR
– Who love RealCloud OR
– Who love Chromecast – Google’s $35 TV dongle OR
– All of the Above
… then we have hot news for you. We just announced that the RealCloud apps on iPhone, iPad, Android and Web will all have integrated Chromecast support starting today. In a nutshell, you can now take all your videos on your PC, iPad, iPhone or Android and start watching them on your TV.
Each of the RealCloud apps will come with a little button on the top-right corner that will allow you to cast videos from the device to your TV. You can even control the playback of your videos from the device, so your device in essence becomes a remote control.
Chromecast has been around since July of this year. RealCloud becomes just one of a handful of apps that are available for the popular device. While Chromecast has had apps like Netflix and HBO Go to allow you to watch premium content, there hasn’t been an app yet that allows you to take your local on-device videos (that you have presumably shot yourself) and watch it on your TV. Today’s announcement changes all that. Now, you can also cast your personal on-device videos in addition to the ones that you have downloaded or subscribed to.
Whenever we announce support for a new device, we make sure that there is some SurePlayTM magic. What that means is that we want to make sure your videos will actually play on the device. Without getting too technical, let’s just say that the videos that you record on your smartphone or tablet can be large. And getting those videos over to Chromecast over your WiFi connection presents a huge technical challenge. So, our engineers worked around those challenges and created a solution that would allow you to watch those videos without pausing or buffering (heh). We have planned further optimizations along these lines.
Speaking of SurePlay, we are also announcing new SurePlay levels that deliver higher quality playback and experience for those who buy one of the paid versions of RealCloud. These will come in 3 varieties namely SurePlay HD, SurePlay HD+ and SurePlay Pro. These will be available with the Silver, Gold and Pro versions of RealCloud respectively.
Happy Casting!!

I downloaded your player on windows 8 laptop but i see no icon on your player to stream it to chromecast – do i have to enable something?
Same here. I downloaded the player but can’t figure out how to cast it with my Windows 8 laptop
Same issue [as Anurag] with Windows 7 application and Android app.
Same here. I downloaded the player for my windows 7 laptop. I see NO chromecast icon.
IS this a hoax? how do you promote something but not actually deliver?
what is the limitation of bitrate of video?
i tried to chromcast video i took with my samsung s3(720p?) in my home wifi network and realplayer cloud ask me to upload first to cloud to cast.
I downloaded your Android app and I see no button to cast to my Chromecast.
Same here. Nothing on Windows 7. I have the current version of Real Player. My Chromecast works with Youtube and Netflix, can cast tabs off my Chrome but there’s no Chromecast button on the real player.
I downloaded and installed the player on Windows 7 and I see no icon either.
I have the same problem… downloaded realplayer cloud on my Windows 7 machine, but don’t see any button to send to chromecast.
I’m having the same issue. I’m running Windows 7, I upgraded to the latest version of Real Player Cloud and made sure my Chrome Cast was working correctly. It will cast from my PC using other apps but the cast button doesn’t appear in the Now Playing window when watching a video clip.
I agree with Anurag. There is NO icon for Chromecast anywhere to be seen on the RealPlayer Cloud screen. Where did you hide it? If this does not work I will uninstall RealPlayer real fast. Chromecast is the principal reason for downloading the program.
I downloaded real player cloud for windows 8 also and do not see the icon or buttonto stream to Chromecast. . what do I do to have this option?
i am having the same issue not able to find icon on mine as welli have windows 7 and can not find the logo to stream top chromecast
Not working on PC windows 8.
Do I have to enable something to have chromecast on my smart phone and tablet
Same here, no Chromecast icon
Same like Anurag, I downloaded real player to my windows 7, don’t see chrome-cast icon 🙁
Bitrate too high to cast. Why do I have to upload a video to your cloud? I have a local network connection to the media. it is just a phone video not even a high quality video. I suppose you are just trying to get us all to pay you money for space but, I don’t feel that the cloud is safe for my personal videos. What a waste.
I am having the same problem. Windows 7. No Chromecast button on the player.
It would be great if I could lock my device when I try to stream a movie through the chromecast. That is a deal breaker for me at the moment
Realplayer Cloud on Windows 7 does not have a chromecast button.
Why only videos? Why not music and photos from our apps?
How do I stream videos from my PC (Windows 7)? I installed Real Player Cloud, but don’t see the cast button anywhere when I am playing a video. Thanks.
Tried using this on a Win7 machine. Did you guys actually do any QA on your cloud app to make sure it worked with Chromecast? There is no icon to cast to Chromecast.. Nothing obvious in preferences where you can enable the feature. This looks a lot like some vaporware announcement.
I downloaded Real for Cloud but there is NO button to click and play on chromecast. How does it work with chromecast?
It can’t stream from your laptop, waste of time to download this. Sure there is a work around by networking your smartphone or tablet to your pc but why do all that when you can just cast a tab. Basically it offers 0 features and flat out misrepresent its chromecast abilities.
I agree… except I downloaded your player on windows 8 – can play on my laptop pc but does not show any icon to stream it to my chromecast connected to my tv…? help!
And by the way where do you email to for support for this app?
I mean I dowloaded to windows 7 – no icon found when open up the player
Same here on Windows 7 with an HP desktop & Asus Laptop.
You still haven’t answered Anurag’s question.
I downloaded your player on windows 7 laptop but I see no icon on your player to stream it to chromecast – do I have to enable something ?
What a crock… you have to upload to their costly server to show it through chrome browser. The player doesn’t let you chromecast. don’t waste your time
Sorry that the exact nature of the issue was not clear. Please provide some more information:
1. Are you trying to download videos? If so, do you get the ‘Download this Video’ option?
2. What is name of the browser are you using to download? (IE, Firefox or Google Chrome)
3. What is the version of RealPlayer installed in your PC? To find the version, follow this steps:
1. Open RealPlayer.
2. Click on RealPlayer logo.
3. Click on ‘Help’ from the drop down menu.
4. Select ‘About RealPlayer’
If you have any additional questions, you can also send an email to help@real.com
They mean there is no icon to click to make your video play on the Chromecat player …

How do I stream to My TV. Please refer me to way to get Real Player cloud videos in my library to stream to my TV using Chrome cast.
Thank you
Same problem as above. I’m trying to play my own video that’s on my computer’s hard drive using the Windows desktop RealPlayer Cloud app (win32 version 17.0.4.61), not a browser. There is no Chromecast icon or button or any Chromecast option that I can find.

If you have the app or extension installed and you still can’t cast videos, power-cycle your Chromecast by following these steps:
1. Remove the Chromecast device from the HDMI slot.
2. Unplug the USB cable or power cable (depending on how the device is powered up).
3. Reconnect the Chromecast and try again.

Chromecast only supports the formats listed in this link: https://developers.google.com/cast/supported_media_types
If your videos are in a different format, or if the video bitrate is higher than 12 mbps, they will need to be uploaded to the Cloud first, so we can convert them to a supported format for casting.
I would like to tell you, the videos which you upload to Cloud is safe and secure. Only you will have access to your personal videos. Also you can share the videos you uploaded to the cloud with your friends and family.
If you have additional questions, please write back to us.

You have to add the video itself to your “cloud library”
Which sucks because you only have 2 GB total, and you have to upload each video here before you watch it so the streamline process is anything but. Then you have to go to cloud.real.com and play it from there.
that screen shot included in this post was from an iPhone not windows. I can post a windows screenshot if anyone needs but it’s nothing special, it’s just from the cloudplayer online in the browser, not the one from the program itself.

I am having difficulty uploading the video to the cloud from my macbook pro. It keeps getting stuck at 8mb and then just freezes. Can you help?
Sorry for the inconvenience caused!
Before getting into this issue, I would like to clarify with some more information:
1. What is the format of the video that are trying to upload?
2. Are you able to play the video?
3. Have you tried uploading some other videos?
4. Does it happen to all the videos?
The more specific you are, the better we will be able to assist you further and for more information, you can also send an email to help@real.com
my computer does not support real player cloud that means i can not cast video via real player new version only? by using chromecast?
RealPlayer Cloud is available for users in US or Canada, running Windows 7 or 8. If you are in US or Canada running Windows XP or Vista you don’t require RealPlayer Cloud software to cast videos using Chromecast. You’ll need to install the Chromecast extension through your Chrome web browser, and open cloud.real.com in Chrome when you want to cast videos.
Please follow the steps,
>Download Google Chrome browser from: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/
>Then, you can create free Cloud account by visting: cloud.real.com
>After creating, you can upload videos to your Cloud account using Google Chrome.
>Install the Chromecast extension in your Google Chrome.
>Then go to cloud.real.com & click on Chromsecast icon in Google Chrome to cast videos.
If you have the extension installed, but you still can’t cast videos, power-cycle your Chromecast by following these steps:
1. Remove the Chromecast device from the HDMI slot.
2. Unplug the USB cable or power cable (depending on how the device is powered up).
3. Reconnect the Chromecast and try again.

I JUST DOWNLOADED REAL ON MY GALAXY NOTE 2 I WAS WONDERING IS THERE ANY WAY FOR MY OTHER FORMATS LIKE XVID TO WORK WITH OUT ADDING IT TO THE CLOUD
I have had installed Real player cloud on my computer, Laptop and tablet. After the installation all of my devices started to get frozen, and working very slow. Its worst app I have ever downloaded on my devices.
I uploaded a 45MB mp4 file to the RealPlayer cloud from my Android tablet. I then try to play it on my TV, which has a Chromecast dongle. In the RealPlayer Cloud app on my Android tablet I see that the file has icons for both local storage and the cloud. I can play the video on my tablet, but if I select to play via Chromecast, here’s what happens: On my tablet, the little arrow circles endlessly; and on my TV screen, I get a still image that says “Ready to play from RealPlayer Cloud.” And nothing ever plays on the TV. Eventually the TV screen reverts to the Chromecast picture-frame/screensaver. On the tablet, the arrow keeps circling.
At this time, you will need to upload your videos to RealPlayer Cloud to play them. Thank you for interest in RealPlayer Cloud!
When a user first installs and starts the RealPlayer or the RealPlayer app, in the background, it will automatically begin generating thumbnails for the menus and creating a catalog of the user’s entire content. During this initial loading period (which varies depending on the specific PC or phone’s performance and the amount of content), the RealPlayer may appear slow and possibly even unresponsive.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. This slowness should only occur the first time you use the application.
If you additional question, please send an email to help@real.com
Sorry you can’t cast videos!
First, make sure you have the Chromecast app installed on your Android tablet.
Next, make sure you are signed into the RealPlayer Cloud app on your device.
If you have the app or extension installed, and you are signed in, but you still can’t cast videos, power-cycle your Chromecast by following these steps:
1. Remove the Chromecast device from the HDMI slot.
2. Unplug the USB cable or power cable (depending on how the device is powered up).
3. Reconnect the Chromecast and try again.
If you additional question, please send an email to help@real.com
I installed realplayer cloud on my android phone and can successfully chromecast the intro videos as well as a 3gp video I had stored on my phone, but when I chromecast the mp4 videos that I have stored locally on my phone I get sound but no video. The TV screen is black. When I play them on my phone without chromecasting I get both video and sound.
My video is playing from your app on my phone but there is no sound. I turned the phone volume up and still nothing. Help!
Sorry you can’t cast .MP4 videos!
Most likely, this issue is the result of either the audio or video format not being compatible with Chromecast. The solution is to upload the video to RealPlayer Cloud and then cast it from your Cloud Library.
If you additional question, please send an email to help@real.com

* Is the issue impacting all videos or a specific video(s)?
* What is the make and model of your phone? (such as Samsung III, iPad 2, iPhone 5, Nexus tablet, etc.)
* Is the video yours or one that you downloaded or was shared with you?
The more specific you are, the better I will be able to assist you.
I tried to download it from the playstore, but it says my phone wasn’t compatible. Is it because of my phone or because of my android version? I have a ZTE Vital (sprint) running android 4.1.2.
I followed your instructions and still, RealPlayer Cloud cannot play anything on my TV. All I see is “Ready to play from RealPlayer Cloud.” The Chromecast dongle and software apparently work fine, since I can cast Netflix to my TV without any problem. (But I reset the dongle anyway, as you suggested.)

Thank you for your interest!
RealPlayer Cloud is currently available in the US and Canada only. If you are outside these region, you will receive “This app is incompatible with your device.” error message.
Sorry for any inconvenience!
Please read this article for instructions to troubleshoot this issue:

If you additional question, please send an email to help@real.com
Thank you. The linked article solved the problem. I had a proxy set up on the tablet (for AdBlock Plus), and turning that off allowed RealPlayer Cloud to stream (cast) to the TV. Very nice app! Thanks also for providing this support forum.
I live in Los Angeles, California, why isn’t it available for my phone?
I live in Los Angeles, California, why isn’t it available for my phone? It just keeps saying that my device isn’t compatible with this version
I’m glad to hear that this is working for you now!
Thank you for letting us know.
RealPlayer Cloud is supported on most Android phones with an OS of 4.0 or higher (Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, and KitKat). The RealPlayer Cloud app is also currently available for the Nexus 7 tablet, Asus tablets, and most 10-inch Android tablets including the Nexus 10 and Samsung Galaxy 10.
We are in the process of expanding the compatibility to all available devices. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I tried RealPlayer Cloud with my iPad Air last night, hoping to play some vacation videos & other videos stored locally on my iPad to my TV through Chromecast – but I just got an error each time saying that RealPlayer Cloud does not support streaming anything from my iTunes library, which rules out the possibility of playing ANY videos stored on my iPad ever.
Where does it say this anywhere? It says ‘Play videos stored locally from your iPad’ everywhere – so how is this possible? ‘Locally’ doesn’t mean ‘Uploaded to an external site’ – not that I can’ upload my videos anyway – beause they are too large, and I also don’t want to spend 3 hours uploading each video prior to watching it.
Thought this would be a great way to instantly play videos I take on my iPad through my TV, but this doesn’t actually seem possible at all. If there are some crazy hoops I have to jump through to get this to work – please let me know. Otherwise I’ll keep waiting for something else to come along.
You promised the ability to cast videos from my device to the Chromecast, but that’s not apparently not actually what you deliver, at least for PC. In replies in this thread you’re telling PC users they have to play from cloud.real.com and use the Chromecast extension from there, but as far as I can tell that does NOT let you cast local content, only content on the cloud. This is not how you should present your product unless you simply want to annoy people – simply tell them up from you don’t support casting local content.
At this time, RealPlayer Cloud has no option to cast videos from iTunes library. However, you can cast local videos stored on PC or Laptop.
First, make sure you have the Chromecast app installed on your iPad. If you are using a PC or laptop, you’ll need to install the Chromecast extension through your Chrome web browser, and open cloud.real.com in Chrome when you want to cast videos. (Chromecast is not available through the desktop RealPlayer application.)
Next, make sure you are signed into the RealPlayer Cloud app on your device.
Chromecast supports the formats listed here: https://developers.google.com/cast/supported_media_types
If your videos are in a different format, or if the video bitrate is higher than 14 mbps, they will need to be uploaded to the Cloud first so we can convert them to a supported format for casting.
If you additional question, please send an email to help@real.com
A Chromecast option is available in the Android, iOS, Kindle and web versions of RealPlayer Cloud. From your PC or Mac, you can go to http://cloud.real.com, and the Chromecast option should appear when you are playing a video from the site (assuming your Chromecast device is active).
You can even view and cast local videos stored on PC or Laptop, through RealPlayer Cloud mobile app if all the devices are in same network.

Hey, i’m already able to cast local content from my laptop to the chromecast through my android device. But how can i play the video with subtitles?
“Chromecast is not yet available for this video. Please wait until it has finished processing.” What does that mean?
At this time, .srt files are not supported by Chromecast. However, this is a popular request and we are investigating how to implement subtitle inclusion in a future release of RealPlayer Cloud.
Note: If the subtitles are embedded in the video itself, they should appear; however, if they are a separate file or require a box to be checked to display them on the original website, then this functionality is not yet supported in RealPlayer Cloud or Chromecast.
If that doesn’t help, please send an email to help@real.com
Please provide some more information:
1. What is the format of the video? (FLV, MP4 or any other).
2. Which device are you using to cast videos?
3. Are you able to play the videos using Cloud app?
4. Have you tried casting some other videos?
The more specific you are, the better we will be able to assist you further.
I downloaded this onto my Nexus 5 and uploaded a video to the cloud to test it out using the Chromecast. There is no casting button my nexus 5. I’ve done what you said above, unplugging it, restarting, updating, etc. But there is still nothing. anything?
After uploading a video to real player cloud. How long does it take to optimize to play on Google Chromecast & is there anything I can do to speed up this process
This optimizing process to play on chromecast is really turning me off.I left the app open for 5 hours and it still says the same thing. It didn’t take me this long to upload it to cloud. this is really making me second guess my decision to pay for more cloud storage.
Sorry you are unable to cast videos.
First, make sure you have the Chromecast app installed on your phone or tablet (note that Chromecast is not available for iOS 5); if you are using a PC or laptop, you’ll need to install the Chromecast extension through your Chrome web browser, and open cloud.real.com in Chrome when you want to cast videos. (Chromecast does not support native Windows software, so it is not available in the desktop RealPlayer Cloud application.)
If you have an additional question, please send an email to help@real.com
Videos uploaded to the RealPlayer Cloud require some time to become available for playback in a format supported by Chromecast. If you were trying to play the videos immediately after uploading them, this could explain the issues you experienced. If you experience this again, please allow more time to pass before attempting to play again.
You can also potentially increase the quality of playback and reduce the delay in playback availability by changing Setting > Video Quality > Streaming from RealPlayer Cloud from Medium to High.
If you have an additional question, please send an email to help@real.com
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Video upload time depends on the size of the file and the upload speed of the computer or device; some examples are available in a new KB article:
https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/38939658
It’s also important to understand that a video may not be immediately available to cast once it’s uploaded; if it’s a format that Chromecast doesn’t support, it takes some time for RealPlayer Cloud to transcode it into a supported format for casting. This typically takes about 30% as long as the length of the file (so a 10-minute video would require 3 minutes of transcoding time).
Still if the issue persists, please send an email to help@real.com
I have been trying to chromecast to my TV using the android app on both my HTC One (Android 4.3) and my Samsung Note 10.1 Tablet (Android 4.3). Both devices get the TV to go to the Realplayer cloud loading screen where it says “Ready to cast” or whatever and then it crashes back to the chromecast home screen. The app seems to think it’s still casting and when I back out of the cast the app crashes. This happens everytime on both devices. I’ve power cycled chromecast and everything. It simply does not work.
I tried using RealPlayer Cloud with my iPad to stream movies from the iPad to the Chromecast, and your player says it doesn’t support that. Your post above says it does. What am I doing wrong?
You have to add a radio button of chromecast to the downloadable version of the real player cloud. Then only it is useful. otherwise nothing special on this. It is a long and boring process to first upload to cloud then cast. Are u mad to offer such a blunder. iF U OFFER SOMETHING IT SHULD USEFUL TO PEOPLE THOSE WHO USING THE APPLICATION. OTHER WISE JUST DO NOT TRY TO MAKE THE WORLD FOOL.
Sorry, Chromecast does not support native Windows applications, so it is not available in the desktop RealPlayer Cloud application. You can cast from our website on your PC, as well as from most smartphones and several tablets. If Google extends Chromecast to support Windows apps, we’ll definitely look into it!
RealPlayer Cloud is supported on iPhone, iPod and iPad devices with iOS 5 or higher. However, the Chromecast is available for devices running iOS 6.0 or later.
To check which iOS your device is using:
1. Tap Settings > General > About.
2. Scroll down to Version. Your iOS operating system number will be listed there.
If you have any additional questions, please write back to us.
Sorry, you are unable to cast videos from your Android devices. Follow the troubleshooting steps given below, to resolve this issue:
>Restart you Android devices and try casting videos again.
If that doesn’t work, try clearing the application data:
>Go to Settings
>Application Manager
>Downloaded
>Select RealPlayer Cloud
>Tap Clear Data
>Restart the device and try again.
If the issue persists, please send an email to help@real.com.
How come when I make changes to my PC library, it doesn’t reflect in my iOS app immediately? Especially when I try add videos to my PC library to an empty library, my iOS app says “PC is not sharing any videos with Real Player Cloud” even though when I initially installed the program, and it searched for media, those videos were added then?
Also if I delete a few but not all videos from my PC library, that also does not reflect on my iOS app?
Is there a lag or delay that you have not told the general public?
Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Click https://cloud.real.com and sign in with your email address and password.
2. Go to Account Settings –> Account
3. Under Devices –> Logout all devices
Then, restart RealPlayer Cloud on your phone and sign in again. The deleted videos should no longer appear.
If you have additional questions, please send an email to help@real.com
I zant to download a video from google
I understand that you wish to download videos.
Note: We do have a known compatibility issue with the latest version of the Chrome browser, Chrome 32, so Download This Video does not currently appear for users on that browser. We expect to release a fix for this issue in the next week or so.
In this case, I suggest you to download videos using alternate browsers like Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. Before downloading videos, make sure that you have enabled the browser plug-in using this link:
https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23689856
You can also use RealPlayer as a browser to download. To do so, follow this:
>Open RealPlayer.
>Click on RealPlayer Menu (at the top left corner)
>Select File.
>Click on Open.
>Type http://www.youtube.com and click OK.
>Play any video and download it.
I have real player cloud installed on my windows 7 computer that is wired to my router, trying to stream a video saved locally on my computer to the chromecast, unable to find the cast button.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Since you are using Windows 7 computer, you’ll need to install the Chromecast extension through your Chrome web browser, and open cloud.real.com in Chrome when you want to cast videos. (Chromecast does not support native Windows software, so it is not available in the desktop RealPlayer Cloud application.)
If you need to cast the videos through chromecast, you need to upload the videos to RealPlayer first. In order to upload the videos, please follow the steps:
1. Open RealPlayer Cloud.
2. Click on PC & Cloud Library tab on the top.
3. Click on ‘Videos’ under ‘PC Library’
4. Select any video which you want to upload.
5. Right click on video and choose ‘Upload to Cloud’
After that, try to cast videos. If you still have any issues, please send an email to help@real.com
Hi,
I use Realplayer cloud to cast my local videos on my ipad to Chromecast.
I have one problem, if I have a video on my ipad in some other application, and when I select “Open In ” option, it does not show me “Realplayer cloud” to open the video with.
IIs it possible to support Realplayer cloud in “Open in” so that local videos can be played in Realplayer?
Sorry. This feature is not supported in RealPlayer Cloud.

I am using my IPHONE 4 with IOS6(NOT UPDATED IOS7), when I download the realplayer cloud from APP STORE, I don’t see the ICON on the top-right corner, If only I update my iphone4 to IOS7 then I could see that ICON yet?
I download realplayer cloud version:1.4.45 for IPHONE4(IOS6), but I still didn’t see the cast icon on the top-right, can you help?
It should work in your iOS6 device. First, make sure you have the Chromecast app installed on your phone (note that Chromecast is available for iOS 6 and above).
To install the Chromecast app, please visit the link: https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/chromecast/id680819774?mt=8

This is absolutely stupid. In order to use realplayer with chromecast we cant watch it from our computer. We have to upload the file to realplayer cloud, then login from our browser to watch it.
Really? This is the best realplayer could do? Uninstall
I have windows 7 and could not cast directly to my ChromeCast from Real Cloud
You said that I have to upload files to Cloud and then cast them from the site
I think this is useless and boring, upload local files to internet to watch them while I have them in my PC 🙂
Is it possible to just add a button to cast in Real Cloud ???
If yes it is possible I think there is no meaning to install Real Cloud in PC to use it with ChromeCast
Please do not answer me the same typical repeated answer I had read it a lot here.
I downloaded realplayer cloud and when I bring up a video it does not show the “download this video” button does not show up. How do I get that to pop up?
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Generally, the “Download This Video” button will appear only if all of the following are true:
1. You have the latest build of RealPlayer.
2. The plugin is installed on the browser you are using.
3. The latest Adobe Flash Player is installed on your computer.
4. The website is not preventing viewers from downloading their content. (If your download consists only of an ad or just a few seconds of the video, then the video is not available for download.)
Make sure that you have enabled the browser plug-in by following this link:
https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23689856
If you are using Google Chrome browser, follow this link: https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/24007773

I can understand your concern.
As you know, Chromecast is a product of Google and this can be used only in Google Chrome browser not in Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. Moreover, Chromecast device, doesn’t have the capability to cast the videos available on your hard drive unless until if the videos are uploaded to cloud. You can also cast the streaming videos directly from the chrome browser by installing the Chromecast icon.
Uploading videos to cloud have certain features, and the most notable concept is called ‘SUREPLAY’ where the RealPlayer Cloud automatically converts the format of the uploaded file to the one which is supported by the device being used by the user.
If you still have any additional questions, please send an email to help@real.com

Its great that you can watch a movie with chrome-cast so Friday night me and the wife uploaded a movie to the cloud because well that’s what you have to do . What a great idea. So its Saturday morning and we are still waiting for it to finish uploading to the cloud……. really takes this long and it tells me i have 35 more hours to go…. what a joke to use your service I have to plan a week ahead what movies i want to watch…. At least make it reasonable for people if you want them to use it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How frustrating! Upload speeds can vary greatly depending on your Internet connection speed and the size of the file.
For example:
– A 5-minute, 30 MB video uploaded using a broadband connection (1-5 Mbps upload speed) can take between 30 seconds to 3 minutes to upload.
– A 2-hour, 1 GB movie uploaded using a broadband connection can take about 20 minutes with a 5Mbps upload speed or 1.5 hours with 1 Mbps upload speed.
– A 2-hour, 4 GB HD movie uploaded using a broadband connection can take about 1 hour with a 5Mbps upload speed or 5-6 hours with 1 Mbps upload speed.
– A device using a 3G connection can take about twice as long to upload content as the 1Mbps speeds quoted above.
High-quality device camera captures: A 1-minute high-quality camera capture on a mobile phone is 130MB–so that would take about 3 minutes to upload on a 5Mbps speed with a Wi-Fi connection. Decreasing the quality from 1080p to 480p can significantly reduce upload times and improve casting playback.
To check the size of your file, open RealPlayer Cloud and select the List view; this will display each file’s size and format, even if it is just a locally stored file.
To check your upload speed, visit http://www.speedtest.net/

The only reason I installed this was because of it’s “compatibility” with chrome cast… which it really isn’t. In order to cast a video I have to upload it to the cloud first?.. (which is takes forever, the interface is slow, clunky & cumbersome) You really shouldn’t be advertising that you are chrome cast compatible until you figure out something better than this bogus system.
Is there a way to play videos saved on a PC and chromecast them through an android device to a TV?
First, make sure you have the Chromecast app installed on your phone or tablet (note that Chromecast is not available for iOS 5); if you are using a PC or laptop, you’ll need to install the Chromecast extension through your Chrome web browser, and open cloud.real.com in Chrome when you want to cast videos. The issue I’m having with this app is the fact every other app the Chromecast supports works well. I can play Netflix with no problem, hulu no problem and pandora with no problem. I use my hp notebook and my galaxy note 2. When I first downloaded the app no problem now all of a sudden all my videos start and then stops and I have to recast to start the video again. Its very frustrating when you are in the middle of watching something and the blue circle comes up and the video stops. What kind of solution can you offer me?

I downloaded realplayer cloud on my pc (windows 8) and tried to play .3gp vedios on realplayer, but there is no sound. What can we do?
I use a Samsung Chrombook from Google. Is their any way I can download RealPlayer Cloud to this device?
cant down load
By default, RealPlayer can play RealAudio, RealVideo, and MPEG files. It can also play other media types if the appropriate plug-ins and codecs (compression/decompression systems) are installed.
However, RealPlayer cannot play files that your computer does not recognize. To find the necessary codec, you can do a web search for the file extension and the word “codec”. For example, “.3gp” is a common extension for videos taken with a cell phone. A search for “3gp codec” will bring up multiple choices. Please note, RealNetworks does not recommend, endorse, or accept responsibility for any specific third-party software downloads.

I can’t play any of my videos in my realplayer cloud app. Keeps on showing a non-castable video. I’m using a Apple iPad 4 with google chromecast
This is lame. How is real player cloud chromecast different than youtube chromecast? In either case, It seems I must upload my videos to a cloud location, THEN play them in Chrome with the Chomecast extension. I don’t want to buy space on Real player cloud, then upload my local videos to see them via chromecast. Your claim to play local videos is misleading.
i read the instruction to use real player and chromecast.
the question is when open cloud.real.com in chrome do i sign in?
i have a real cloud account already

I’m really mad…just a day ago I was able to cast my uploaded video to my samsung hub smart tv. Now today when I got wanted to cast my video. It says you can not cast video over 15 minutes. It was just a day ago that I viewed the movie Frozen from my realplayer cloud account to my tv. When did this change took place? The shortening of the video length take away why I us realplayer cloud for. Please change this update or whatever.

A simple question as I have seen conflicting comments and I find most of the help on this page to be very confusing.
Can I use RealPlayer Cloud to stream video on my local network to chromecast on my local network without uploading it to the cloud?
Thanks
Guy
Sorry for the inconvenience. Chromecast only supports the formats listed here: https://developers.google.com/cast/supported_media_types
If your videos are in a different format, or if the video bitrate is higher than 14 mbps, they will need to be uploaded to the Cloud first so we can convert them to a supported format for casting.
If you have any additional questions, please send an email to help@real.com
Seems very misleading to say that the RealPlayer Cloud can stream videos from my laptop. It appears that the RealPlayer Cloud *PROGRAM* does not stream to ChromeCast, only videos that I upload to the RealPlayer Cloud can stream off of the website? Is that correct?

I am so excited to have Chromcast BUT
IT DOESNT WORK as well as i thought
Very Disappointed
1) video of mine thro realplayer Cloud either wont play at all : the blue circle just goes round and round, Or, it plays without v the volume
2) Pandora on chromecast buffers and payses every 10 to 60 seconds, cant even enjoy a whole song!
Sorry for the trouble.
To fix this issue, I recommend you to try the below suggestions:-
Solution 1: Power-cycle your Chromecast by following these steps:
1. Remove the Chromecast device from the HDMI slot.
2. Unplug the USB cable or power cable (depending on how the device is powered up).
3. Reconnect the Chromecast and try again.
Solution 2: Sign out and sign back in.
1. Sign out of RealPlayer Cloud on your PC.
2. Sign out of RealPlayer Cloud on your mobile device.
3. Sign out of RealPlayer Cloud on Roku and all other devices in your network.
4. Click https://cloud.real.com and sign in with your credentials.
5. Go to Account Settings > Account.
6. Under Devices select Logout all devices.
7. Restart the applications on your PC and mobile device.
8. Sign in again.
Make sure you’re connected to same Wifi network. You can upload the video to RealPlayer Cloud and then cast. As RealPlayer Cloud doesn’t support casting songs, I’m unable to provide any suggestion and it is best to contact Pandora.
If that does not resolve the issue, please send an email to help@real.com
Cast to google chromcast supports mkv or wma formats? Thanks
Chromecast supports the formats listed here: https://developers.google.com/cast/supported_media_types
If your videos are in a different format, or if the video bitrate is higher than 14 mbps, they will need to be uploaded to the Cloud first so we can convert them to a supported format for casting.

I’m trying to cast some videos from my library (things on my PC, not stuff I uploaded to the cloud) using the smartphone app and it’s always worked before but now I don’t get any videos under “My Videos” in the smartphone app. I tried signing out and back in a bunch on both the smartphone and my pc and tried updating the app on my pc too but no luck. Did you guys change that functionality?
First, make sure that you’re signed in using the same email address and password and are connected to the same wireless network as your Chromecast. You also need to sign in to RealPlayer Cloud installed on your PC and verify whether the folders (videos that are saved) are added to the Library & Device Sharing.
To verify, visit this link: http://customer.real.com/entries/25408918
I understand that you already signed out and signed in back; but I recommend you to sign out of RealPlayer Cloud (from all devices) and sign back in.
The videos should appear.
Check whether you’re able to access the videos via website (http://cloud.real.com). If the videos are not listed, upload to Cloud space and see whether it is displayed. It is best to upload because it automatically converts to the supported file format. If your videos are in a different format, or if the video bitrate is higher than 14 mbps, they will need to be uploaded to the Cloud first so we can convert them to a supported format for casting.
Chromecast supports the formats listed here: https://developers.google.com/cast/supported_media_types
If that does not resolve the issue, please verify the following:
1. Make sure you have the most current version of your mobile device’s OS and the most current version of the RealPlayer Cloud app.
2. Make sure your devices are connected to the same wireless network as your Chromecast and logged in with the same email address and password.
3. Make sure your router, modem or gateway is set to multicast (check the owner’s manual for instructions).
4. Go to My Videos > Network and under Chromecast, turn Compatibility Mode on. This will revert you to an earlier version of Chromecast that may work better with your device.

Why in gods name does the video stop casting when I lock my phone?! Please correct this bug! Also your app doesn’t remember the last position it was playing on in such cases.
Keeping the phones screen on when casting an hour long movie is not practical! Please think about customer use cases before making horrible decisions like ” hey let’s cut off the casting as soon as the user locks his screen” without giving it any thought!
Sorry for the trouble.
I would like to inform that issue has been fixed in the latest version. All you have to do is download the latest version of RealPlayer Cloud App.
If that does not resolve the issue, please provide the following:
> The make and model of the device.
> The version of RealPlayer Cloud App installed.
> The speed of the Internet. To verify go to http://www.speedtest.net
Hope it works! Please let us know, if you have additional questions.
Im having problems casting mp4 videos that I have downloaded. some work, others make me upload to the cloud. kinda sucky when you want to watch the video now instead of later

I use real player for my sound system but I have never requested Cloud and have not signed up for it. I find that several research videos have been stolen by cloud and now have a cloud icon. I am unable to access these files and need them urgently for my work. How do I get them back without signing in to your services which I will never do because I do not agree to your contract. I want to be able to store and move my files as I wish. to use on or off line. Give me my files back or I will take legal action to sue for my costs in replacing these files.

Sorry for the confusion.
RealPlayer Cloud is the newest version of RealPlayer, available for customers who have an operating system of Windows 7 or higher. When RealPlayer Cloud is installed as your default player, the RealPlayer icon changes to RealPlayer Cloud icon and its supported files has Cloud icon on it. This is the reason why you’re seeing the Cloud icon on your videos and music videos.
Use of the Cloud storage and sharing features is completely optional and secure. We think it’s a cool–and private–way to share your favorite videos with friends and family, but there is no requirement to upload your videos to the Cloud if you don’t want to. If you do not wish to upload your downloads, please follow the steps given in this link: https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/40461017
When you disable the automatic upload, the downloads are saved in your hard drive like the previous version which you can access it via RealPlayer Library.
As you’re concern about the files, you can delete the Cloud videos if they are saved in your Cloud Space. The Cloud Space is the where your downloads are securely saved which can be accessed via RealPlayer Cloud app installed in your devices. Please note that it is secure and the stored videos cannot be accessed without your login credentials.
To delete the Cloud videos, go to http://www.cloud.real.com and enter your login credentials. Right click on the video and then select delete. Make sure you have all of your content backed up on your hard drive first. To do so, right click and then select Download to save it in your hard drive.
Please be aware that we are no longer making any updates to RealPlayer 16 or earlier versions, and popular features such as Download This Video may not work on these versions. Therefore, we strongly recommend using RealPlayer Cloud.
