This Week’s 5 Most Popular Videos Found Online
I love viral YouTube videos, but with my short-term memory I can only remember three of them, if I’m lucky. Someone ought to work as my personal video intern to find me the current best and funniest Internet videos of the week. RealPlayer has done just that with its web videos. The Popular video channel is like the Billboard Top 100 for top web videos, and there is a huge gallery of the current most viral and popular videos organized by category.
THIS WEEK’S POPULAR VIDEOS
Before we get to the Internet’s five favorites this week, I have to mention some outstanding honorable mention videos that didn’t quite make the most popular list. “Bill Clinton Singing Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke” is a mashup masterpiece of machismo. Those who love funny cat videos will appreciate the “Cat Sees Owner After 6 Month Leave” that has been tearing up the charts in the Facebook video sharing category. This week also ushered in the birth of the Royal Baby and coverage has been in full swing. With that in mind we have the “The Muppets Welcome the Royal Baby” video. Without further mention let’s count down the top 5 most popular videos this week.
5. “COULD WE STOP AN ASTEROID? FEAT. BILL NYE” YOUTUBE VIDEO
In “Could We Stop an Asteroid?” Bill Nye the Science Guy drops by to whip up fear over a possible asteroid strike to the planet earth. He’s got legitimate data and fantastic anecdotes, all delivered in his signature rambling and animated style. Then he (not-so) calmly explains how we Earthlings really don’t have that much to worry about in regards to renegade asteroids. Of course, there are plenty of asteroid videos available online if you want to see what to expect.
4. “CONVOS WITH MY TWO-YEAR OLD” FROM THE POPULAR VIDEO CHANNEL
“Convos with My 2 year Old – Episode 8” is the quote-unquote season finale of the popular and funny Internet video series. The role of the two-year old is played intermittently by both an actual two-year old and a thirty-something male hipster, who overacts, which produces a comedy gold formula. Check the “Convos with My 2 Year Old” YouTube channel for the whole series of episodes.
3. “AWKWARD FAMILY PHOTOS: THE VACATION HALL OF FAME” BUZZFEED VIDEO
The Buzzfeed team is back to pointlessly occupy your time with Internet whimsy in their latest offering, “Awkward Family Photos: The Vacation Hall of Fame.” This is an ongoing Buzzfeed video series offering montages of the most unflattering vacation photos, all choreographed to obnoxiously catchy soft rock music. Sure, it’s fun to watch; but just pray that a picture of you doesn’t show up in that video.
2. “CHROMECAST FOR BIGGER FUN” COMMERCIAL
Sometimes one of the most popular videos of the week is just a commercial. But what a product they’re advertising in “Chromecast for Bigger Fun,” representing the just-announced Google Chromecast video streaming super-gadget. If I had known Google was going to come out with a simple $35 dongle that would stream anything from the Internet straight to a big-screen HDTV, I wouldn’t have spent the last five years and countless dollars trying to achieve the exact same effect.
1. “47 RONIN – OFFICIAL TRAILER HD” MOVIE PREVIEW VIDEO
And the No. 1 most popular video of the week goes to… a movie trailer. In “47 Ronin – Official Trailer (HD),” Keanu Reeve’s plays a duuuuude who joins a team of samurai and forms a 47-man killing machine to take on monsters, ghosts, and foes from subplots past. A fake cast of thousands is simulated via computer graphics in what promises to be this summer’s biggest blockbuster set in 18th century Japan.
